Rosicrucianism and Modern Initiation
These lectures, given just after the Christmas Foundation Meeting and following Rudolf Steiner's lecture course World History and the Mysteries and describe the changes in the inner life and consciousness of Western humanity since the ninth century. The previous awareness of the existence of the spiritual within all realms of nature disappeared, to be replaced by today's consciousness of only the sensory world. The esoteric stream of knowledge, however, was preserved quietly by inconspicuous teachers and their widely scattered students. Rudolf Steiner describes the inner teachings of the early Rosicrucian schools and alchemists as well as those of later occult schools of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. This background leads to consideration of the inner training that is most appropriate for today—the mastery of science and its transformation through individual self-development of inner capacities.
